BALLOT DROP BOXES
Delaware County Elections worked with municipalities countywide to provide 30 secure, ADA-compliant locations for ballot drop boxes.
The ballot drop box at the Government Center in Media will open with the first mailing of ballots (expected late April.) The remaining drop boxes will open May 5. All are accessible 24/7 – except for the drop box in Chadds Ford, which is limited to weekday hours. Drop box locations and hours are listed below.
Reminder: Voters may return only their own ballot return envelope. The only exception is to assist a disabled voter or an emergency absentee voter -- and requires a declaration signed by the voter and by the person who provides assistance. The third-party form to authorize picking up and returning a mail/absentee ballot can be submitted in-person at the Voter Service Center in Media or mailed to Delaware County Elections, 2501 Seaport Dr. Suite BH120, Chester, PA 19013.
PURPOSE & SECURITY
Drop boxes provide mail/absentee voters with the most direct method for returning their ballots – from the voter directly to the election authority, without using a middleperson such as the Postal Service or a courier. Drop boxes also are vital for those voters who return their ballots on Election Day or just before Election Day – to prevent loss or delay of the envelope in the mail.
All drop boxes are kept under 24/7 surveillance during use. Counterfeiting, forging, tampering with, or destroying ballots or drop boxes is a second-degree misdemeanor pursuant to sections 1816 and 1817 of the Pennsylvania Election Code (25 P.S. §§ 3516 and 3517).v
