In recognition of the toll the heroin epidemic is taking on the community, Delaware County Council, the District Attorney and Delaware County agencies formed the Delaware County Heroin Task Force in 2012 to address this public health concern.
The mission of the Heroin Task Force is to provide young people, parents and educators with information regarding the destructive and addictive nature of heroin and abused prescription drugs.

Task force goals include:
- Reduce the demand for heroin and illegally used prescription drugs.
- Educate citizens about the resources available to prevent and treat addiction.
- Reduce drug-related crime in the community through public education and law enforcement.
The Delaware County Substance Treatment and Overdose Prevention (Delco STOP) Coalition held a presentation to educate our community on lifesaving Narcan, to remind residents about the County’s Certified Recovery Specialists and our Warm Handoff Program that can assist overdose survivors and their families. They also detailed how to access Medication Assisted Treatment, Inpatient Services, and Recovery Housing. The Delco STOP Coalition aims to educate the community about treatment and recovery, increase access to treatment, and reduce stigma.
